As Star Wars fever rises and in anticipation of The Force Awakens day, not so long ago and not far away on Melrose Ave., I took a lesson in style from Princess Leia. With her white Grecian gowns, cinnamon bun hair twists and blaster guns, she has been a fashion icon for decades. How can you forget her iconic metal bikini worn in the Return of the Jedi?
Star Wars came out in 1977, way before I was born (actually, not like waaaaay before but before nonetheless). Leia was the only female lead. As Carrie Fisher once declared: "Princess Leia was the beginning of girl power." Without her we would've never gotten Cora or Zena or Lara.
My inspiration for this outfit was her all-white hunting look worn with grey boots and braided hair on Planet Hoth. I wanted to bring the doughnut hair back, since sadly, she won't be sporting it in The Force Awakens.
May the Force be as strong when it awakens on Thursday night.
