BREAKFAST AT BERNIE'S

June 6, 2016

written by

The California Primary is tomorrow, so last week I popped by "Johnie’s Coffee Shop" on Fairfax and Wilshire for a quick Breakfast at Bernie's. I was amused by the creativity that was put in to morphing the usually vacant landmark into the Bernie Sanders HQ, a pop-up mock coffee shop open for the duration of the campaign. Sanders inspired murals and posters with catchy phrases like “we are the 99%”, “human need not corporate greed", "serving the country”, “are you a human being? then vote for Bernie” are plastered all over the place. I walked in wearing my Naked Wardrobe white bodysuit, and I walked out wearing the coolest Bernie "SAND WARS", Star Wars inspired t-shirt that perfectly matched my yellow Manolos. While real breakfast wasn't served, I had some spirited discussions with a few members of the Bernie's Avengers and it reminded me of the fundamental changes Bernie has been proposing throughout his campaign. Whether his changes are doable or not we have yet to find out. I think they are, but the truth is, a right wing Republican will do everything they can to obstruct ANY Democratic president’s agenda, as they did with Obama.

With Donald Trump in the other end, the only thing any of us should be thinking about is how to best defeat him at the polls. Even though there's no way Trump would achieve some of the unrealistic things he babbles he'll do if elected President, such as "make Mexico pay for a Border Wall", he has a dangerous, racist and dictatorial personality and as President Kennedy said:  "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." I know that after tomorrow, the race may be over for Bernie Sanders but he has come a long way and there's no doubt that he has had a powerful effect on this Presidential race. Though some people argue and think that Bernie should've called it quits a while ago, he has stayed in it for a reason, to bring people together and to think big and not just to just remind Hillary of what needs to change, but to make sure the changes occur. I'm sure Hillary will make a decent president, but one way to remind her of those changes is to help Bernie win California. I've been a legal US resident for 15 years and California is my home, but I still have two more years to go before I can become a US Citizen. As soon as I become a citizen, I will be a registered Democrat. But until then, I can't vote. For those of you who can, vote and feel the Bern for me!
