MY FIRST TRIP TO MILAN

August 4, 2016

There's a first time for everything. I have never been to Milan before. This surprises me as much as other people when I tell them. This time I made it a point to go for my last stop of my Italian adventure, and though it was a short stop, it was perhaps the "cherry on top".

I arrived at the monumental Statione Centrale and went straight to the "Baglioni Hotel Carlton" to get spoiled at their spa "Spiga 8 SPA", which was absolute perfection. The name is a tribute to the location having its own entrance at 8, via della Spiga, the most fashionable street in Milan. Because of the time limitation, I had a few key places to visit while I was there. As you may have noticed, I'm a huge art buff, so I visited "Fondazione Prada". Housed in a former distillery, the museum is as much about the architecture of the re-imagined distillery as the art itself. My favorite was the Golden Tower, it was creepy in a haunted way. The first night, I stopped for virgin mojitos at the "Bulgari Hotel"   before heading out to dinner for the freshest seafood at "Assunta Madre".

The next day I went to the fashion mecca "10 Corso Como" and I was like a kid in a candy store. They have the best of the best of all my favorite designers, it is safe to say that it's my favorite store in the whole world. It is a shop, art gallery, rooftop garden, hotel and cafe all rolled into one. They had a great art exhibition "Punk in Britain". Cookies in the cafe were spectacular!

I finished my Milan exploration in the one and only Piazza del Duomo. The pink-marble Gothic facade of the cathedral is unreal. Wander around inside to see stained glass windows and the mummified corpses of two bishops. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the roof.

Milan has something for everyone, world-class shopping and a thriving cultural scene. It reminded my a little bit of Mexico City, unfortunately, two days wasn't enough to take it all in. Maybe it was a blessing because I would've ended up with no money for the rest of my trip. I'm looking forward to going back soon.
