I LOVE Spandex. Who doesn't??? I once ran into a girl next door, young mom type in the elevator at Barneys in Beverly Hills and we both happened to be wearing our beloved Lulus. I wasn't exactly planning on going to the gym after or anything, and please note that my hair was fresh out of the drybar and flawless, as usual. She had a double stroller with what looked like twins in it. She looked at me and made some small talk about how she lived in her Spandex ever since she had babies and asked what was my excuse. Here's my excuse: Spandex is comfortable, I can wear it everyday and incorporate it into any dress code etiquette. Fashion should be fun and experimental and there shouldn't be too many rules (i.e. no white after labor day, match your bag and shoes, etc., etc., etc.). Rules take the fun out of things.
One of the top pieces of spandex in my wardrobe is the Wolford's Fatal. It hits all the sartorial high notes and is as comfy as a pair of Lulus, it's like second skin. I own it in 3 colors and would love more. It's the most versatile piece of fabric there is and no wardrobe should be without it. It can be worn as a maxi seamless tube dress, strapless little black dress, as a mid length pencil skirt or a miniskirt. Proof that spandex is not just functional, but also fashion forward. Styled with a classic moto leather jacket and nude Tom Ford sandals on laundry day, how about this for an excuse, elevator lady? So ladies, embrace your spandex!
